Portneuf Kennels and the Cat House
About Our Business
My Story
I have always been in love with dogs, cats and horses. I became involved in 4-H at a
young age and trained and showed many animals including dogs, horses, sheep
and poultry in the 4-H program. I was honored to win the state award in the dog
program in 1975.
During High School I earned extra money pet sitting for all of my neighbors. This
included not only the care of dogs and cats but livestock and poultry. I also worked
at two local veterinary clinics. I learned that caring for animals was what I wanted to
do for a living.
I attended The Western Vocational School of Dog Grooming in Eugene, Oregon and
graduated in the spring of 1976. I returned to Pocatello and started my business. I
tried to learn more about grooming by talking to many professional dog handlers at
the dog shows I attended. I will be forever grateful to these people who "took me
under their wing" and helped me turn my skills into an art form.
I continued training and showing dogs for many years and earned several
Championship and Obedience titles on my dogs in the United States and Canada. I
also became an obedience instructor and taught many classes for the 4-H program,
the Pocatello Kennel Club and T &T Dog Training.
I was blessed to become the owner of my own kennel, Portneuf Kennels. Thru the
years I have had the opportunity to meet some wonderful people and care for some
amazing animals. I have always appreciated the trust my clients have had in me. I
have always tried to do my very best for each animal left in my care. I have truly
enjoyed getting to know all of the different dogs and cats and hearing many stories
from the owners. Some where along the way, many of my clients stopped being
clients and became my friends.
Thank you Pocatello!
